Weekly Mixtape 16 feat Natalie Vermeer

Natalie Vermeer is a local musician, writer and substitute elementary school teacher. We got her to do a mixtape this week and you can download it from here or the link on the sidebar. Here’s what she has to say about her mixtape.

“I was hoping not to recreate yet another break up mix but those really are my favourite. So here is a mix containing several songs that have ended up on every mix I’ve made in the last two years. Let’s just say this mix is the soundtrack to a story of blissed-out love that has both parties quickly snapping out of it, realizing the problems, then missing everything, but ultimately, giving up any chance of anything… to be alone.”

If you’re wondering, Natalie’s really not as emo as the mixtape or write up would suggest. Full tracklisting after the jump which includes Miracle Fortress, Spoon, Man Man, The Blow and a whole lot more. As an added bonus, Natalie has written what she thinks about each song. You might think she uses too many exclamation marks, but that’s actually how she talks.

Miracle fortress - This Thing About You (I have yet to find a sweeter song. I just really hope that this is based on a true story!)
Love - A House Is Not A Motel (How can you not love love?)
Blonde Redhead - Spring And By Summer Fall (I fell in love with their album “23″ after their Amsterdam show in ‘07, that i went to with Michael! Yay!)
Candi Staton - You Don’t Love Me No More (Why can’t I sing like her? It’s just not fair!)
Lavender Diamond - Oh No (My most favourite l.d. songs are the most repetitious)
Magnetic Fields - I’ll Dream Alone (This is probably the newest song on this mix! And probably from the last CD I bought. Sad isn’t it? Hey, at least it’s from this year!)
The Blow - Fists Up (I think this is the most clever song ever.)
The Cryan’ Shames - Please Stay (Oh so so sad: this time, be different! please stay! sigh!)
Spoon - The Ghost Of You Lingers (Because you just asked the person to stay in the last song… They have stayed! They are a ghost!)
Man Man - Doo Right (Man Man had to be on here. Also put ‘em near Etta ’cause they’ve covered track 11 before!)
Etta James - I’d Rather Go Blind (Heartbreaking!)
Earlimart - Happy Alone (If I tilted my head from side to side as I walked and liked to go for early morning walks by myself, this song would be perfect in the background.)
